Hotels and Bed & Breakfast

Tresco Guest House

This bed and breakfast enjoys stunning views over East Looe Beach, Looe bay and St George's Island. The photo on the left is the view from the "sunflower" room. I stayed here for a long weekend and it was wonderful. There are three rooms to choose from, the Lavender room, the Sunflower room or the Banjo room. I stayed in the Sunflower room, which has all the comforts you could crave for. The room has its own private terrace so you can sit and enjoy your favourite tipple in glorious sunshine or snuggle in your room and admire the view. If you are looking for somewhere to unwind and relax, then look no further. The owners take pride in creating a peaceful tranquil atmosphere, which they certainly achieve. For this reason no children under 12 are allowed to stay at Tresco. With notice they can accommodate special diets and certainly managed my gluten free diet. It was nice to be able to have toast and marmalade in the mornings. This is one bed and breakfast I will certainly be re-visting. Visit their website for more details.

Portmellon Cove Guest House

This bed and breakfast is on a small hill overlooking Portmellon Cove beach. I stayed in the Heligan room with great views of the sea and a door that opens directly onto a sun deck and beautiful garden. You can just sit and completely chill out in peaceful surroundings whilst looking at the sea. They are not organic but do offer a vegetarian breakfast by request. The whole place is very clean, the breakfast superb and the owners very friendly and helpful. The room was just excellent, with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Lots of great little touches like a whole range of hot drinks for you to make in your room, a mini bar and snack bar with very sensible prices.

The Greenhouse

Is situated in the heart of edinburgh and provides quality vegan and vegetarian bed and breakfast. Helen Duff a recent visitor to the The Greenhouses states "I had the most fantastic stay in The Greenhouse in Edinburgh which I found through your site. Honestly - I cannot praise it enough - the food was wonderful. I have never seen such an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu for a breakfast. The food was of a superb standard and the breakfasts would fill you up until 3pm! The people who run it are very friendly and can advise about where to eat veggie in Edinburgh which is great. They understand what vegetarians and vegans want and like from their diet - you could be as healthy or an unhealthy as you liked which is such a novelty when some people assume that all veggies want to eat wholefood and pulses all the time. The hardest thing was trying to choose what to have for breakfast every day! I would recommend it to anyone"

Visit The Greenhouse website for further details.

Penrhos Hotel

A beautiful hotel on the Welsh Border near Kington, Herefordshire, surrounded by breath taking countryside and not far from villages full of antique shops and art galleries.

Having personally enjoyed the hospitality of Penrhos I can thoroughly recommend a weekend break including breakfast and dinner. To sample the cuisine of Daphne Lambert using only the finest organic ingredients is a must. Savour every bite and then wash the delights down with a bottle of fine organic wine.

The rooms are large and comfortable overlooking the surrounding countryside. The downstairs rooms have french doors leading out to the garden, whilst the upstairs rooms enjoy spectacular views. There is a cosy, very romantic area for you to sit and enjoy a pre-dinner drink and the restaurant is reminiscent of a banqueting hall fit for a king.

If you are looking for a romantic break or just somewhere to unwind then I think you will find all that you are looking for at Penhros. Visit the Penhros web site for further details and if you do book a room please mention that you found them on A lot of Organics.

Paskins Town House

An environmentally friendly hotel in Brighton. Close to the sea, Palace Pier and Brighton's Royal Pavilion. Visit the unusual shops in The North Laines or try East Street for some antiques or jewellery.

All the rooms are individually designed and breakfast is served using organic produce, which is locally sourced where possible. Vegetarians and Vegans are also well catered for. Fair-trade tea and freshly ground coffee are served with breakfast and are also available in the rooms.

Having visited the hotel, I can tell you that you are in for a treat when it comes to breakfast. Starting with a choice of fruit and juices and followed by a full breakfast which is a delight of organic ingredients. Whether you have the meat version or the vegetarian version you will not be disappointed. I am not a vegetarian but tried the full vegetarian breakfast as the sausage and fritter were home made and did not contain any wheat. I can tell you they were both delicious and extremely filling. This was finished by some toast, or in my case rice cakes, with home made marmalade that is to die for. Unfortunately as they use no preserves, you cannot buy the marmalade to take home with you, so savour every bite.

The room I stayed in was cosy with a large bed, which was very comfortable. The only downside is that the floorboards above the room were very creaky and did disturb my sleep. If you are visiting Brighton for a fun weekend then this should not be a problem for you, unlike me who likes to be tucked up in bed before midnight. For more details visit their web site

Rowton Castle

If you require a special diet, it may be worth contacting this hotel. Rowton Castle is set in the country side of Shropshire, just outside Shrewsbury. From the outside the hotel really does look like a castle, inside you get all the comforts of a hotel.

I experienced Rowton as part of a wedding party. The hotel was informed in advance that I would require a gluten free meal. I was amazed when the soup was served and they delivered me a tiny little gluten free loaf, baked specially for me by the chef. Although I have stayed in many hotels and told them I need a gluten free diet, I have never had bread supplied as part of the meal. It was fantastic to be able to eat along with all the other guests. A really special touch.

Rowton also serves a vegetarian option in their restaurant, so whatever your diet, if you fancy staying in the comfort of a hotel within a castle, then give Rowton a call. Visit their web site to find out more. Don't forget to mention A lot of Organics when you book.

Have you visited any hotel recently that uses organic produce or can provide for an alternative diet, such as; vegetarian, gluten free or dairy free? If so, why not write a quick report and send it to andrea@alotoforganics.co.uk? If you also have a photograph, send that along too.
